Our cats are at the heart of everything we do at The Scratching Post, and getting to know their different personalities is all part of the experience.
Different moods, favourite spots
Some are confident and curious, some are gentle and laid-back, and some are much more opinionated than they first appear. Like all cats, they each have their own routines, moods, and favourite places to relax, and we always let them set the pace.

Meet the resident cats with their portraits and personality notes below.
Silver smoke Maine Coon
Deborah is a beautiful silver smoke Maine Coon with a big personality and an even bigger voice. Still only young, she already likes to think she is in charge and is never far from the action. She loves chasing feathery toys and making sure everyone knows exactly where she is with her impressively loud meow.
Solid black Maine Coon
Dexter is Deborah’s brother, a striking solid black Maine Coon with a big appetite and an even bigger presence. He is huge for his age and still growing, and he loves eating, chasing Deborah, and charging around at night when everyone else is trying to settle down.
Silver British Shorthair
A small and beautiful silver British Shorthair who is becoming braver every day. Layla enjoys finding high places where she can quietly watch what is going on, followed by a well-earned snooze. She is also developing a lovely friendship with Deborah, who looks rather like a long-haired version of her.
Tabby and white girl
Tilly is a small but chunky tabby and white girl with a gentle nature and a quiet way about her. She enjoys life at her own pace and loves being brushed, having cuddles, and watching the world go by from upstairs. Despite having a comfy bed, she still prefers to curl up in her scratching box.
Fluffy black and white girl
Luna is a small, fluffy black and white girl with plenty of character packed into a little frame. She may look sweet and delicate at first glance, but she is full of spirit and not afraid to stand her ground. She loves cuddles and is well known for being the little cat with the big attitude.
Beautiful tiny Bengal
India is a beautiful tiny Bengal who is just over a year and a half years old. Indy settled very quickly as she has bags of confidence and sass. She loves to be into everything and enjoys climbing up high.
White and tabby boy
Fred arrived with Ron, and the two are so close they seem like brothers. Quieter and a little more laid-back, Fred is a white and tabby boy who loves comfy cushions, peaceful naps, and making sure he never misses a meal. He and Ron look so alike that telling them apart can be a challenge.
Maine Coon/Ragdoll cross
Blue came from a very loving home but sadly the family had to be rehoused and couldn’t take their pets with them. Kitty and Blue are sisters and are Maine Coon/Ragdoll crosses; they have lots of character and enjoy saying hello to the cafe customers. Their previous family visit us regularly to see them and are reassured of their happiness as part of the cafe team.

A note about our cats
Every cat at The Scratching Post is an individual. Some may come straight over to say hello, while others may prefer to watch from a favourite perch or enjoy a peaceful snooze. However they choose to spend their day, we always respect their boundaries and let them interact in their own time.
